SOURCE – Anatomy Of A Moment is the latest Ardours record – one you’ve been sitting on for a couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What are your thoughts on the recording and songwriting sessions – and where do you see this record sitting in the catalog of Ardours discography and where did you want to come across lyrically for this record?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – Hi! Yes, unfortunately we got really hit by the pandemic, and it has not been fun watching all our upcoming shows being deleted as we were actually ready to bring our new record Last Place On Earth on stage. We then started collecting ideas and working on a new album and on a new sound, working in distance sending stuff back and forth, it has been a bit challenging as we were counting on seeing each other a couple of times at least, then we made it for the pre-production though…We are very happy how the music turned out to be… lyrically we decided to have Tarald Lie as the main songwriter, and speaking of his lyrics, we find them deep and poetic, it is actually what we want for Ardours. This album also sees two of my lyrics: “Secret Worlds” and “Cold Revenge”. I was kinda skeptical about this could work, being myself a bit more of an open feeling kind of songwriter, but now I can actually see that I was thinking too much 🙂 the songs are not meant to create a concept in particular, but they tell of people’s lives and sad stories mainly.
SOURCE – What are your goals and expectations for the Anatomy Of A Moment?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – We would love to play these songs all over the world and hopefully many people will be listening to our music!
SOURCE – You shot the video for the track Epitaph For A Spark. What do you think about the final result? Was this song an obvious choice to put to a visual concept?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – If it was up to us, we would actually make a video for every song, we have a strong visual idea for each of them, Kris in particular. We had no budget for big productions, but we did it as we liked and I think they work fine, since it is the music that comes first!
SOURCE – You have worked with a slew of different bands over the years, both in studio and as a session live. What do you pick up from each experience with different bands?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – Working with other bands is always constructive, and you can learn a lot by watching them doing… I have always been interested in the human connection and all the times I work with someone I have the pleasure to bond with some amazing people.
SOURCE – What do you like about releasing your own, solo material (Dark Ability) as opposed to a band release Anatomy Of A Moment?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – I love to have my own project on the side, even though the amount of work is sometimes hard to handle for one person only. I have a very open view in music, you should not be shocked if someday I would come up with some rock music, world music or so… freedom is too important to me.
SOURCE – These days videos are not played on music TV, but on social media. How important are they in the promotion process?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – I think they are very important cause it stimulates our visual senses and it can be a very cool experience, on the other hand when it is about music it is important that it sounds good more than it looks good. The opposite would be awkward, I wish people could see that…
SOURCE – Anything you can say about the old video for Ti Sento (Matia Bazar cover) from Eu4ria EP?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – I think we like our version of the song, the video is nothing special but enough for people to see us in action.
SOURCE – After the release of the album, what’s ahead for 2022 with any of your bands/projects?
Mariangela Demurtas (Vocals) – We will try to play as much as possible. Not an easy thing because now everybody wants to play… but well… let’s get to work and keep our fingers crossed! Thank you!
