SOURCE – Hey guys thanks for taking the time for an interview, How is the new album coming?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Thank you for the interview!
We’re very satisfied with the result. We really think we found a good stylistic mix between metal and electronic music on the latest production. And that’s (in our eyes) obvious when you listen to the new Engines of Creation EP. Everything went really smoothly from the songwriting, the recording and not to forget the mixing and mastering, which was done by Drop at Downtone Studio in Geneva/Switzerland. Like on the first production Circular Line last year, he made an awesome job at the studio! And this time, an electronic remix of Redemption by Drop RMX (http://www.droprmx.com/) is included and we really like this cool interpretation of our piece of music! And we think it fits perfectly to the EP.
SOURCE – Can you tell something about the production of Engines of Creation. Where there any complications or did it all go as planned?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Yes, we’re happy that there were no bigger issues while producing the EP. Everything went well and the product went on sale on August 8th as it was planned.
SOURCE – It can be difficult to hold on to a sound you’ve become known for while also trying to explore new musical areas?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Maybe it could be difficult, if your name is Metallica and you release a reggae album, haha. But not really in our case. We think our sound has been pretty unique from the beginning on and we don’t really stick to any stylistic schemas and often try innovative things.
SOURCE – Are you perhaps preparing some new video for the promotion of Engines of Creation, can you tell us something about it?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Apart from the three album teasers on youtube (available on our youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/CLAWERFIELD) nothing is planned for the moment. We’ll first see how the EP will establish and maybe later discuss some video projects.
SOURCE – Was there an overall theme you wanted to present on Engines of Creation that was present on past albums or was it an entirely new experience?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Not really, Engines of Creation is definitely something totally different. There is not an obvious link to the previous album Circular Line. But the EP itself has kind of a concept with the intro theme on Nautilus which reappears at the very end of the project on Symbiosis.
SOURCE – You’ve embraced social media, having your own Facebook and Twitter account separate from the band. How important is social media now?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Social media are very-very important for smaller and unsigned bands like us. They give us the opportunity to be heard all over the globe and that’s just fantastic!
SOURCE – What would you say are some of the biggest misconceptions about Clawerfield?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Good question! In fact we have no idea. But, it’s probably the idea of Clawerfield being a one hundred percent metalcore band. This might come back from the early days of the band in 2009/10, when metalcore was hyped strongly and we tried some “core” parts besides the other elements of our music.
SOURCE – If a metal fan comes to visit Thun, what would they see and do?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – All being Thun and region natives, we’d say enjoy the landscape with the mountains, the old town and the lake (like all the tourists do). Unfortunately, from a metal point of view, Thun is a rather calm town. There aren’t many clubs playing metal. So, also for us, when we play in Switzerland it’s mostly in the bigger towns like Berne.
SOURCE – Any chance of a South American tour on this album cycle?
Mario Keusen (Drums) – Not at the moment. We think, it needs a good known band name and a lot of organization and budget for something like that. But we never say never and see what the future will bring!
SOURCE – After all these questions I thanked the band for taking the time to participate in the interview and asked if they wanted to leave any final words.
Mario Keusen (Drums) – We’re very happy with that interview! Thanks a lot for the opportunity to talk and also for spreading the word for us in Brazil & South America! Stay in touch with us on facebook or twitter.
