SOURCE – With COVID-19 still causing trouble, a lot of artists are taking time to write and it seems like a perfect time. Have you thought about where to go from next or started writing or brainstorming for the next album?

Andrew Pevny (Guitars) – We’ve made a lot of progress on the follow up to the EP which is very much looking like it will be a full album. Even though we’re in 3 different states, we have a pretty good system for remote songwriting that is still very collaborative. Having tools like Zoom at our disposal has really made this album possible!

SOURCE – How does that affect your goals and expectations for the album?

Andrew Pevny (Guitars) – I don’t want to speak for the rest of the gang, but I don’t have any expectations for this band in terms of sales or reception. Daughter Chaos, to me, is a tribute to the bands that got me into this genre. Having fun writing this music is of paramount importance when it comes to writing music for DC.

Sara Claudius (Vocals/Bass) – Yes – it’s fun and exciting. The music we write with DC checks off all the boxes of what I hunger for in heavy music, and I feel a very intense urge to put more of it into the world…to share that powerful feeling, when the music is heavy and really hits the spot. We had such a great response with the EP, despite the limitations of the pandemic it connected with listeners who resonate with what we are doing. The goal is to give more of that feeling out to the people that crave it! It really drives the creative process. As Andrew said, there’s no real expectation for sales and reception, I feel we’re here to add metal gems into the timeline.

SOURCE – How has the pandemic affected you personally?

Yanni Sofianos (Drums) – I personally took extra precautions on staying safe and limiting on places where I’d go, so I used a lot of that time to dig deeper into my home recording studio and just continue to keep learning as much as I could, continued to write and record demos with the band, and even do some session work as well.

SOURCE – You did a video for The Space Born. How important are videos these days?

Yanni Sofianos (Drums) – I think videos have always been important to me especially since I grew up during a time when youtube hadn’t existed yet. So watching Headbangers ball on tv or having vhs tapes of your favorites bands were the only options you had at the time. Videos have come a long way and are still very important especially since the last two years where live shows had come to a halt due to COVID, so that filled a void for a lot of people/musicians that weren’t able to go out to a live show and were still able to see previous live videos, new music videos, or even collaborations between different musicians and bands.

SOURCE – What will be your strongest memory of recording this EP?

Sara Claudius (Vocals/Bass) – The strongest memory for me was definitely the process of becoming a vocalist! I had done demonstration vocal tracks of my lyrics for previous work (such as the Captivity & Devourment album and the first draft of this EP), but now it was time to step up to the plate and really become the performing vocalist – and with haste as we were pushing to complete this recording as soon as possible.

A very memorable time during recording was when I went to New Jersey to do final tracking with Andrew & Yanni. That time together made everything feel official and solidified our new path. It is exciting to build on that experience now with the LP we are currently recording, and to have further breakthroughs.

SOURCE – Social media is an essential part of promotion these days. Do you like the transparency and interaction, or do you prefer the old days when there was more mystique to an album release?

Sara Claudius (Vocals/Bass) – We value the ability to promote independently through social media, especially during a time with restricted live performance. Without this channel, we would not have much window to show the world what we’ve been doing over the last few years. Of course we prefer live and in person above all, but all vehicles that facilitate spreading the music must be utilized. Artists have more opportunity to exhibit their work via social media, and we like that very much.

SOURCE – With so many uncertainties in life in general and in the music industry, how do you go about setting expectations for an album right now?

Andrew Pevny (Guitars) – For the most part, we’re trucking on in the same way we would with any other record. We are taking into account some of the big changes that are occurring in the music industry and working to implement some new ideas.

SOURCE – Is there anything else you’d like to mention?

Sara Claudius (Vocals/Bass) – Yes! Stay tuned for the forthcoming album, it’s a crushing and melodic heavy piece of metal that we are very proud of! We are excited to get this out into the world for you to bang your heads and feel the power!! Thank you for the interview and for spreading the word!
