SOURCE – I’d like to start with talking about your new album Prophetic Blasphemy. Congratulations first of all, it’s excellent album, one of my current favourites! How long did it take to record?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – Thank you! And thank you very much for the generous remarks in the review of Prophetic Blasphemy. We are thrilled that you like what we do.
We spent two super effective weeks with our friend Chris Kreutzfeldt recording guitar, bass and vocals. And then an extra day recording the choir that you hear in “The Inevitable Dissent”.
The writing process was definitely the longest part of the whole process. We started writing some of the parts while we were releasing the “Crow” EP back in early 2019, so it’s been at least 2 years in the making before we finally hit the studio back in March 2021.
SOURCE – Could you say that all the songs on the album have something very strong or are there some songs that stand out as the strongest?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – I (Emil) think each of the songs have their unique thing to offer. However I do have a soft spot for both “The Empress’s Wager” and “The Inevitable Dissent”, since those two songs incorporate everything I love about metal and music in general.
SOURCE – What kind of reception has the album had so far and was it received in the way you thought it would be?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – Well, as we’re writing this, the album hasn’t been released yet. So we’re still on our toes to find out what everybody thinks about it. The people we have shown, though, have been absolutely ecstatic about it, and we’ve been asked on a daily basis when it’ll be released or if they can have it ahead of time.
We’ve been sitting on this album for about a full year now, so we can barely wait to show everybody what we’ve been cooking on.
SOURCE – What’s your take on the influence of the Internet on the music business? Did it help Hanging The Nihilist reach a wider audience or diminish record sales because of illegal downloads?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – Since we all met on the internet, I can safely say that without the internet there would be no Hanging The Nihilist. So I think the internet is definitely an incredible tool for both meeting each other and starting new projects. But also for reaching out to fans, making contact with designers, bookers, venues, other bands etc. When navigated properly of course.
SOURCE – In Brazil there’s much fans listening your kind of music. What do you know about the Brazil?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – We actually know very little about Brazil. None of us have ever visited your country, but we sure would love to! Book us!
SOURCE – What has been the effect of the pandemic on the band, and you personally?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – First off, we didn’t play as many shows as we had hoped to after releasing “Crow”. So we had endless time to polish “Prophetic Blasphemy”, and finish up all the tasks that come with writing and releasing an album.
SOURCE – If a fan comes to visit Copenhagen – Denmark, what would they see and do?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – If a fan comes to visit Copenhagen they should hit us up, so we can hangout. Or visit Tivoli… your choice. Copenhagen really has a lot to offer. So whatever you like, there is for sure something for you.
SOURCE – What’s next for Hanging The Nihilist?
Emil Juhl (Drums) – We may or may not already have begun writing the next album…
