K-X-P

SOURCE – III Part 2 signalled the stronger re-emphasis on electronics with this album. What inspired heading down this route again?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – K-X-P is live electric hybrid. We usually never have guitars on records. This is maybe one of the reasons. Guitar sounding things are usually bass by Tuomo Puranen or distorted synths. Guitar seems to be the default of psychedelic rock, so we try to make something different.

SOURCE – Can you tell something about the production of III Part 2. Where there any complications or did it all go as planned?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – Everything is under control all the time… Hahaha. I’m always nerve wrecked after making every record. So this was nothing different from the standard chaos. If you say “this record is easy to make and takes 6months” it means it will take 24 months and you almost end up in mental hospital.

SOURCE – It can be difficult to hold on to a sound you’ve become known for while also trying to explore new musical areas?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – Not really. We record huge amounts of material and pick best parts. We cannot operate so that we make ten songs for seven song album. We make as many songs as needed. “Sound” is always connected to music. When the music is ready, sound will follow.

SOURCE – How has the response been on III Part 2 and what kind of expectations do you have for it?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – Response is generally as good as it can be 2016. Things move fast in socialist media and the wheel gets reinvented every three weeks. K-X-P is band that is not trendy or hyped. We build our reputation with jungle drums and word of mouth. Every show we do and every track and record we let fall from our talons adds to the saga of K-X-P.

SOURCE – Have you filmed any videos for this new CD?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – We did video for Air Burial. Personally directed it. It is homage to our bass man Tuomo “P” Puranen, who only plays in studio with us nowadays.

SOURCE – Living in Finland, which has a very large metal scene, which bands out here do you think will make an impression in EBM/Eletronic?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – Hard to say. Maybe Mikko Joensuu, but he is more man with guitar. Huoratron makes nasty and crazy jams. Techno is strong. Mika Vainio is the grand wizard of electronic music in Finland.

SOURCE – What do you like most and least about Finland?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – I like clean air and clean water you can drink from the tap. What I dislike is the right wing racist populists that are getting more and more power. They have no respect for nature or fellow humans. Their fuel is stupidy, ignorance and fear.

SOURCE – Outside of music, what inspires you in life? What are your passions and interests?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – I do yoga and have been “clean” from boose ten years. My own mortality is inspirational cos at some point I will just run out of time. Have to make as much great music before I punch the ticket.

SOURCE – Which bands do you currently rate at the moment, industrial or otherwise?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – I listen lots of classical music and devotional music. Actually don’t listen much modern music. Wendy Carlos, Vangelis, Jarre, French avantgarde from 70’s, Turkish psych rock, techno. Sunn O))) is great, new Mayhem album “Esoteric Warfare”. The Necks from Australia. Jazz, free jazz. Bird calls and nature sounds. White Fat Family is interesting rock band. Mythos from Germany.

SOURCE – Thanks for your time today! Is there anything else you’d like to say to our readers before we wrap this interview up?

Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, synths & misc.) – We need to plant more trees and stop cutting them down.  Help weaker and smaller creatures ‘cos this will make you stronger.
Lets respect the nature.
