Lommi

SOURCE – Let’s cover the basics first. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

LOMMI – Well, we guess that we are not the first guys in history who thought Tony Iommis last name was pronounced Lommi when we were kids!? Starting out as a three-piece-riff-loving band it all started as kind of a joke that the name would suite us perfect!

It wasn’t until our first studio recording we decided to take the name LOMMI after the engineer Sven Jenssen asked us if we had a name for the band. He laughed and thought it was awesome! So did we…

SOURCE – Let’s talk history. You were all close friends before Lommi. Was it an easy decision to start a band together?

LOMMI – Dennis and Jörgen played together for the first time in 1986, and have been in several bands since then. Jens and Dennis met for the first time 1991 and shared the same interest in heavy music. The three of us decided to jam together in the beginning of 2007, and the feeling was there right from the start and it was an easy decision to continue….

SOURCE – What bands have influenced your style, and how would you describe your sound for those who haven’t heard you before?

LOMMI – There are so many bands that has influenced us all through the years, so it’s hard to just mention a few. But bands in different genres have inspired us in the way they create their music: with an open mind, i.e. Prong, Melvins, TOOL, Gojira, System of a Down, Mastodon, Kyuss etc.

It’s always hard to describe your own sound, especially since we really don’t have an exact plan for what shall happen when we create our songs. We always intend to keep them groovy and as a trio you have to think a lot about the dynamics too! So, to sum it up: we play a kind of hard/groove/riff/metal for the open minded.

SOURCE – You have a new album, Horses, right? I have had the chance of listening to it already and I have to say it’s great!

LOMMI – Thanx a lot! Yes, we are really proud of the way ”Horse” turned out. Can you give our readers a quick scoop about it?

LOMMI – Well, the album contains eight songs, all with different vibes, but still with the typical LOMMI-sound. In the studio we always record drums, bass and guitar at the same time, with only vocals and one guitar overdub afterwards. In this way we stay close to the sound from the albums when we play live on stage.

SOURCE – Do any of you have any guilty pleasures music-wise or is it all about the rock?

LOMMI – Of course it’s almost all about rock /metal, BUT, in the same way we intend to be open minded when creating music we all try to be open minded even when we listen to music from different genres than our obvious favorites.

SOURCE – Considering all of the activity and bands in the Gothenburg scene was your relationship with these guys more of a competition? Or camaraderie?

LOMMI – Gothenburg is kind of a small big city, and the vibe between people here are really friendly, especially in the metalscene. We guess that 99,9% of the metal musicians here in Gothenburg are truly glad when colleagues from other bands succeed, regardless their genre.

SOURCE – Is the current metal scene still strong in Sweden, or has it been surpassed by some other Scandinavian countries?

LOMMI – With bands like In Flames, Opeth, At the Gates, Hammerfall, Dark Tranquillity and many more, Sweden is still standing strong. Norway has Dimmu Borgir, Kvelertak, Mayhem and from Finland you have Children of Bodom and Nightwish, but in this global world of today great metal music comes from all over the Planet.

SOURCE – What are the best and worst things about being in a band?

LOMMI – Best – create, record and perform with friends! Worst – expensive!

SOURCE – Any inspiring words for future musicians?

LOMMI – ”Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work” – Gustave Flaubert

SOURCE – Finally, why should people check you out and buy the new album?

LOMMI – If you consider yourself as a fan of riffs, grooves and heavy music with heart – tune in and get LOMMIfied!
