Lure Out The Beast

Lure Out the Beast

SOURCE – Let’s talk about first video of the new album, Driven. It’s a great track and the chorus has been stuck in my head all day. Do you feel like Driven is a good representation of what fans can expect from Lure Out the Beast?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – Yes! Driven was chosen as we think it represents the album and the sound we wanted to create. Furthermore it gives people a hint of what they can expect from us live.

SOURCE – How was the video shoot for Driven?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – We did it all in one day! We had a meeting with the director about a week before the shoot and initially there was supposed to be a murder story that would run in between the studio footage, but we dropped that idea once we saw how well it worked without it. The video was shot in our rehearsal room/studio and it shows what a really good session might look like. Except for some of the smoke maybe…

SOURCE – Run me through the pre-production process for the album.

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – We recorded everything live in that very room you see in the video, kept the drum tracks and then overdubbed everything else on top of that in the following order: Drums, bass, guitars, solos, lead vocals, backing vocals and then some final touches here and there. Doing it all by yourself is a long and tedious process but it’s very rewarding when you’re happy with the final result! We mixed it ourselves and then had it mastered by an old mastering-guru friend of ours. Later, when we signed our deal with Rambo/Sony Music, they thought it met their standards well and didn’t alter it in any way.

SOURCE – Were there any difficult parts for you to play in the studio?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – All parts are difficult in a way as you want them to sound as good as possible but the solos took a little longer as many of them were written during the recording process.

SOURCE – What has the early response to the album been like?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – We’ve had quite a number of nice reviews in the Swedish rock press but the best response is always that which comes directly from the fans, comments, likes, subscriptions and such. When “Driven” hit the Pirate Bay for three days in August the response was huge and it really felt like it was worth all the effort making the damned thing! We’re really looking forward to your review of the album by the way!

SOURCE – Were there any songs that were left behind that you really wished was on the album, that you voted for and didn’t get on the final product?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – There were two songs but they didn’t really fit in well at all and everyone agreed on that they could be excluded from the album. Maybe on a B-side in the future, who knows!

SOURCE – What do you think the band brings to this style of music that makes it stand out from the crowd?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – Hmmm, good question. Even though we sort of found our comfort zone in the heavier, early ninetees drop-d grunge sound we have quite an age span within the band and we listen to a lot of different stuff. That eerie, twin peaks -esque vibe we sometimes have is sort of uniqe for us in this genre i think.

SOURCE – Do you think Lure Out the Beast can be considered a gateway into more underground music, because you not only have stoner/sludge fans, but also hard rock fans?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – Sure, why not?

SOURCE – Are you currently involved in any other musical ventures?

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – Our drummer is in another project called Monograss and I’m working on some solo material but Lure Out the Beast is our main thing!

SOURCE – That’s all I have for you, I really appreciate you taking the time to do the interview!

Knut Svanholm (vocals, guitar) – Thank you! We hope to talk to you again sometime and we really hope we get to play in Brazil some day!
