SOURCE – For those unfamiliar with who you are, what’s your background? How are things at this moment in Serbia?
Sanja Drca (Vocals) – We are all girl death metal bend coming from Serbia. We are a band who is mostly influenced by Arch Enemy music and we started as a band who was doing Arch Enemy covers. As time was passing by we realized that making our own music is driving us more, so here we are. We are now working on our second album and we are happy that we can offer to the world our original music instead of doing covers. Regarding the situation in Serbia, with or without Coronavirus, death metal music here is not that popular, but we really don’t care about that fact, and we will continue to play death metal and to try to bring it back to life!
SOURCE – Your album The War Is On came out on 2020, what can you tell us about this release?
Sanja Drca (Vocals) – We released “The War Is On” in February 2020 under the Grom Records label. We were lucky to find the best label for us, but unfortunate to release the album just before COVID restrictions came in. Album contains 10 songs and they are a summary of our work from the beginning of the band until it’s release.
SOURCE – How you think that your newest single The Scales of Fate is different to your last release The War Is On?
Sanja Drca (Vocals) – It is different as the band is more mature and more sure in which direction wants to go. We love our first album and audiences love it also, but we learned a lot while we have been working on it, so all things learned will apply on our second album. The Scales of Fate is just a small gist of what you can expect from our following album!
SOURCE – How was the video shoot for The Scales of Fate and what is the plot of the clip?
Sanja Drca (Vocals) – It was really a great experience! We filmed it together with our friends from On-Set studio in Ciglana in Belgrade. That day was especially hot and we were surrounded by sand and lights so we had that as the only difficulty. We wanted to imagine the Goddess Nemesis and to represent her in a performative way since the lyrics describe her and her vengeance.
SOURCE – How do you handle the changing landscape of music consumption – as there are many older fans who prefer owning physical copies of albums still, while it seems most of the younger generation of fans prefer to get their music through digital and streaming means?
Sanja Drca (Vocals) – What we can see in these more alternative genres, is that people love to listen to full albums from beginning to the end. That can result in their willingness to buy a physical copy of an album and to really enjoy it in the way the music has been consumed in the past. So for those ones we have available CDs as well as Vinyl And cassette releases. On the other hand we have a lot of followers who are mostly using digital platforms for listening and we understand that music now is much more than just a song and that is consumable together by listening and by watching music videos. So for those ones we are trying to release songs together with music videos. And all of our songs are of course available on digital streaming platforms.
SOURCE – What would you like to see in the music scene in Serbia as it continues to grow and evolve?
Sanja Drca (Vocals) – We can only wish for more diversity on the scene, but the fact is that the music scene will evolve in the direction that the Serbian media dictates. As in any other media, profit is the main goal and we are all aware that death metal is something that is not a good opportunity to invest in, especially in Serbia. We can say that from our side we will do our best to promote the Serbian underground scene in and outside the country and to show to them what we are really capable of doing with or without their support!
