SOURCE – Congratulations on your new record Transparency, I feel that this is perhaps your best record ever, how do you feel about this statement?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – Thank you. I think by your statement we accomplished what we initially set out to do and that was make a solid record that goes beyond our previous efforts.
SOURCE – Could you say that all the songs on the album have something very strong or are there some songs that stand out as
the strongest?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – I feel every song on the EP has something strong about it and that’s why I’m so glad we decided on releasing an EP instead of a full length. On an EP there are no fillers… it’s just the best of the best and nothing less.
SOURCE – You have been with a lot of different labels over the years. What led you to Pavement for this one?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – We’ve only been with one other label other than Pavement Records. What lead us to Pavement Entertainment was a mutual friend who introduced us to Tim King (Of Soil) who upon hearing our demo of the record, got behind us fully.
SOURCE – The new album takes different elements from your previous recordings along with some new stuff. Is that the sound you had planned going in, or just how things turned out?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – As a band we never plan out how we write music because that’s just something that comes natural. Of course SLS does have a signature sound that will always makes us who we are but as a band we still strive to think outside the box.
SOURCE – Do you write more material than you need, and then cut it down, or do you generally write the number of songs you need for an album?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – Our members usually have a plethora of ideas so there is no shortage on material it’s only a matter of using what sounds best.
SOURCE – Fan reaction, as is often the case, seems to have been mixed if the Internet reaction is any indication. Have you gone online much, if at all, to read some of the responses that fans have had to the new album?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – I read reviews from time to time and I also go by the messages fans leave on our Facebook.
SOURCE – As you look back on Straight Line Stitch’s catalog, are there any albums that weren’t all that well received at the time that in retrospect have really held up well?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – Our album to Be Godlike has held up rather well considering it was released a decade ago and we had no label or management at the time. People still ask about that album and it had no promotion whatsoever.
SOURCE – With the way the music industry is, and CD sales on the decline, do you still feel the current metal/rock scene is good?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – I try to have positive outlook on things but to be honest I really just don’t know. Seems that in today’s music scene bands are full of their own hype rather than lending a hand to help the struggling music scene.
SOURCE – You’ve toured with both rock and metal bands. Is that appeal to a varied crowd one of the reasons you’ve done well at festivals?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – Yes. We tour with anyone, we don’t care because the goal is the same & that is to put out our music to entertain the masses. I definitely think it’s something that has added to our appeal.
SOURCE – Do you have any plans of a South America and Brazil tour?
Alexis Brown (Vocals) – It’s something we are working towards… it’s definitely a goal to play South America as well as Brazil. Thanks!
