To Die For

To Die For

SOURCE – Would you say that the new album is more immediately accessible than Samsara?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – Hmmm… I think it is, what comes to its slash and burn. Some TDF fans are missing more keyboards, or more clean vocals. But this is CULT album, and this is how we wanted do album this time.

SOURCE – Over the years has your songwriting process remained pretty consistent or does it change from album to album?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – Songwriting process is been quite same over the years, but our mood at the studio is been changing sometimes, and that is the point, because like with Cult album. We composed most of the songs at thestudio quite fast, not thinking too much, and we were very spontaneous…

SOURCE – What led to the nearly four year gap between studio albums?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – Problems of course. We always have some problems sometimes, because TDF always have/had band members, whos are quite wild nature people, and you never know what happens next. After Samsara some of us felt like the whole band did not want to create same kind of music, and it made us suffer, so… then again one person had to leave… it is always like a little death personally for me, because I am been here from the beginning and tried to handle this somehow, but on the other hand, I love wild people and everyone are free to do what ever they want in their lives. With this line up things are been good for now on… who knows if some of us will be killed in near days by our bassist or drummer? A-ha!

SOURCE – As you look back on TO/DIE/FOR’s catalog, are there any albums that weren’t all that well received at the time that in retrospect have really held up well?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – I guess IV album got some shit in the beginning, but later people started to love songs from IV album…

SOURCE – The reaction to your new album, from the early reviews that have come out, seems to be positive. Do you guys pay much attention to reviews?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – Personally I do not care about reviews that much. Reviews are anyway only one persons opinion.

SOURCE – When you are at home, when you are off the road, do you stay away from music or are you going to shows and seeing bands in the area?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – Some of us are going to see other bands more often than me. I like to spend a lot of time just for being alone… but yes sometimes I go too. But it should be something different usually, for examble tomorrow I go to HC – Fest, where are only hard core punk bands and so on… hard stuff you see. But I never go see any ‘usual’ heavy bands, because they are all acting like ministers, shows are too safe, and nothing interesting happens and nowadays heavy sound turned out to be very boring.

Bands should start to looking for some new ways what comes to the sounds and producing to make it more interesting again. That is what I am looking for now, if it does not happen on next TDF album. It’ll sure happens on my upcoming OWN album!

SOURCE – You have gone through some lineup changes over the years. How do you co-work with the newer members at live shows?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – Naturally… it always went forward just naturally… this is all I can tell you about it.

SOURCE – As you get older and have more family responsibilities at home, are you altering how you plan tours as far as about where you are going and the amount of time you are going to be out at a particular time?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – I have a daughter, but she is not living with me, and she is already 18 years old, nice and wonderful daughter, so I have no problems with her at all… and in the end. This is my life, and I do what ever I want to… my partner understands me and my dreams so… no problems.

SOURCE – Speaking of technology, some band are starting to ban cell phone recording at concerts. Is that something that you think or hope will happen with the music industry as a whole?

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – I think this is not a surprise, but I hate that kind of new technology, I hate it when people does enjoy aboout the show like 300% and just listen the songs and have fun and dance or jump here and there from the bottom of their hearts. From the stage those fucking cellphones looks fucking stupid. Do the light with candles or with your lighter!

SOURCE – Is there anything else you need to mention? Thanks for your time Jape!

Jape Perätalo (Vocals) – We’re all responsible only about our own happiness, and we need to learn love ourselves after that we know how to love everything else around us. Let’s respect our mother planet, and other people and share love, not hate.

We are equal, stay alive, share love. Peace and rock and roll. And would be nice to see you all somewhere someday!
