SOURCE – Speaking of your new album. It’s called Transience and is out March 29th. The third album often is the most difficult for bands. How are you feeling a few weeks pre release date?
Valentin Hahnemann (Guitar) – Pretty damn good to be honest! This record has come together pretty naturally with little discussion and lots of good vibes within the band. It was pretty stressful from time to time since we had a lot of touring “in between” everything but that also helped with the inspiration, so all in all we’re really happy with the whole thing!
Robin Baumann (Vocals) – Yeah. It was a hell of ride this time as we had to do a lot of stuff simultaneously to stay in time with the release in general. So I’m very happy that the album will finally drop soon, haha.
SOURCE – What was your orientation when writing the new songs? Any bands, sounds or other inspiration you can give us as reference points?
Valentin Hahnemann (Guitar) – This is probably one of the hardest questions to answer for us since we all come from completely different backgrounds, even though it’s all rock and metal related. The one thing we definitely wanted to do is to be more modern sounding than ‘Solace’, but in general we always just start writing and see what happens.
Robin Baumann (Vocals) – What Valentin said. The overall approach this time was to just create what we really want to do without compromises. I think this is the album where we sound the closest of how we really wanna sound!
SOURCE – How important has it been to inject the songwriting with diverse influences – as you have a rock base, but add in everything from pop to hardcore and eletronic elements beyond to keep the songs fresh and dynamic?
Valentin Hahnemann (Guitar) – As an artist I think it’s one of the most important things ever to just try out stuff and see where it brings you. It’s so inspiring every time we hear new bands or soundscapes when we work with our producer or even just a new plugin we downloaded. But it’s also a bit of a balance since you don’t want to disappoint the fans of the old stuff and of course gather new fans along the way.
SOURCE – What are your goals and expectations for the Transience?
Robin Baumann (Vocals) – We definitely want to continue our musical journey with this one and deliver a worthy 3rd album for our current fans and also generate new listeners with this record! I’m very happy of how ‘Transience’ sounds as a full piece and can’t wait to hear all the feedback. I think that new doors will open up for us and my goal is it to make our first real headline tour some day after this release.
SOURCE – When it comes to your videos, do you enjoy the creative aspect of that and how you are able to promote them through social media?
Robin Baumann (Vocals) – Yeah, we love shooting new music videos. It’s always fun and a pretty cool part of being in a band. We work pretty close with Marius Milinski here who is shooting all our videos and also mainly involved in the creative process when it comes to finding video ideas for our songs. I think we created some pretty weird stuff together during the last years, haha.
Like most of the bands today we have to spend a lot of budget to promote these new releases on social media to make sure that all our listeners are aware of new music video releases. It’s just part of the game nowadays if you really want to reach your fanbase and also generate new fans with your content.
SOURCE – How important do you think are singles and EPs in this era in comparison to full length releases?
Robin Baumann (Vocals) – I think singles are super important as the market is so packed with very good bands that you need to keep dropping stuff constantly and not be forgotten during this flood of information and content out there. Every single release is also another chance to reach people who’ve never heard of you before. So it’s a pretty useful tool to increase your audience before you drop a new record. I’m not really sure what to think about Eps yet as I think that dropping enough singles has the same effect for me.
SOURCE – What worries or concerns do you have about the world that we live in today? Where do you think the leaders of the world need to put more time, energy, and focus on so that future generations will benefit from these measures?
Valentin Hahnemann (Guitar) – Damn where do we start? Haha… But to be serious in today’s time you could basically be worried for everything, climate change is coming for us all, healthcare is practically not available for half the planet, one half of humanity is getting obese while there’s still people starving, it’s just so bizarre… And all that while everybody is just screaming at each other! Not just the leaders but everyone needs to learn to listen and be aware that the world is complicated and that there are experts for a reason. If you want to listen to good music you don’t go to your weird uncle, you listen to a musician… Through the Internet everybody thinks they are experts in everything and now we have more flat-earthers that ever.
SOURCE – What’s the message you want to bring out?
Valentin Hahnemann (Guitar) – It’s dark times and you don’t have to look far to see that but if we listen to each other, be compassionate and understanding of each other’s problems you also don’t have to look far to see the good in this world. Be kind and ask for help if you need it and you see that you will get it.
