SOURCE – I’d like to start with talking about your new album Next Level. Congratulations first of all, it’s excellent album, one of my current favourites! How long did it take to record?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – Thank you! Well the album was written and recorded on a very short time frame. We spent two months writing the album (minus a couple of songs – “abandon” “anger” and “stress” – which were written previously and we only spent about a week in the studio. The album has more of a live vibe due to the fast paced recording process.
SOURCE – How would you describe your new album Next Level?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – Aggressive, beautiful, angry, heavy and catchy.
SOURCE – What kind of reception has the album had so far and was it received in the way you thought it would be?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – Thankfully, it has been receiving a lot of positive feedback. We weren’t sure what to expect due to our change in sound and style.
SOURCE – How was Andy Nelson’s work as a producer on this album?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – Andy is awesome. He helped out a lot with the overall tone of the record. His studio, Bricktop Recording, is perfect. It has a great two story live room for drums, hence why they sound so huge. I have to give props to the other engineer Joe Scaletta, Word of Mouth Recordings, as well. He mixed and mastered the album along with recording all vocals. The combination of both studios helped make this the perfect record for us, especially considering how fast it all happened.
SOURCE – Are you preparing a music video for a song from the new album?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – Yes, be on the lookout for multiple new videos!
SOURCE – What is your opinion on today’s new underground metal bands? Which ones are you picking out as unique ones?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – There are some awesome underground bands out right now. The new Code Orange LP is great. I love that they are bringing back a vibe from the early 2000’s.
SOURCE – Nobody watches metal videos on TV any more. It’s all on the internet, but do you think because of the accessibility of the internet that more people are actually seeing your videos today than would have back in the heyday of MTV?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – Probably, due to the fact that videos are now available at all times, not just when MTV decides. It’s a shame there can’t be a mix of both.
SOURCE – If a fan comes to visit Chicago – IL, what would they see and do?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – They would fly in to O’hare (midway sucks), get a hotdog from Gene N Jude’s (no ketchup!) and they should take a drive down Lake Shore Drive and get an awesome view of our fantastic skyline.
SOURCE – What’s next for Warhound?
Nico LaCorcia (Drums) – We will be releasing some videos to support “Next Level” as well as beginning to plan our next release. We are talking about switching to 8 string guitars (we’re using 7 strings now) and dropping our tuning from drop A to drop F. The next release should sound like death metal, rap and trip hop.
